NovaThreads
What are NovaThreads?
NovaThreads are hypodermic needles that are fitted or loaded with PDO absorbable sutures. These are synthetic and absorbable surgical sutures made of polydioxanone. The sutures are typically used in performing cardiothoracic surgery (like an open-heart surgery).
These sutures are also among the safest materials that can be implanted in your body. The facial skin can completely absorb PDO Sutures within four to six months and will not leave any scar tissue on your skin.
How it Works?
In medical lingo, NovaThreads work through a principle called selective inflammatory response. This principle is also used in several aesthetic procedures like chemical peels, fractional laser and micro needling.
Our facial skin is pretty good at curing and repairing itself, so by injecting NovaThreads we can get it to heal itself faster by naturally producing new collagen. Your skin will gently and gradually react to several inserted threads.
Although PDO sutures are fully absorbable, it does not necessarily mean the skin will not react to them. During the time frame needed to completely absorb PDO sutures, your facial skin will also repair itself around them. It is often called controlled healing and happens underneath your skin.

Treatment Process
There are two techniques that can be used in a NovaThreads procedure. The first option is called NuMesh. It involves creating a new mesh under your skin. It is performed by inserting three sutures horizontally and two sutures vertically.
It is like a net and will serve as a base for new and natural collagen production. This mesh will tighten your skin from within naturally and the results appear natural too, and do not look drastic.
The second technique that we use is called NuLift. It is used for producing more dramatic and instant results. A PDO suture has a cog, which provides extra grip underneath your skin. PDO sutures will be inserted in manner similar to the first technique, but in this case, the sutures can be pulled in one or two directions, and can instantly reposition your skin. Just like the previous technique, your skin will produce new collagen, securing the lift nicely.
Post-Treatment Instructions
- Restrict your activity after the NovaThreads procedure
- Apply iced gauze pads to your cheeks and eyes to reduce swelling
- Keep the dressing dry
- When resting or sleeping, maintain your head in an elevated position
- Avoid food items that require prolonged chewing

NovaThreads are minimally invasive and do not require significant time for recovery. In most cases, patients resume their usual routines immediately following the procedure. Patients may experience mild bruising, tenderness or swelling, which can be overcome using pain medications and skin ointments.
